The Flea Market and La Bourride

Most shops in the villages of France are closed on Sunday, with restaurants as the exceptions.  So we knew that today may be a slower day.  However, I read that a "flea" was being held in Favier from 7am to 7pm today.  We had a general idea where Favier was located, so after a leisurely breakfast we set out to find the "flea", which we hoped was a flea market.  We thoroughly enjoyed browsing the "flea" and I actually found a few things.  Everything I buy now must be small, non-breakable, and easy to pack.  I found a small (very small... maybe 1-1/2 in. x 1-1/2 in silver picture frame, some small dishes for olives, etc., and a very pretty piece of pottery with melted glass in the bottom.  I spent about 10 euros for all three.  So, we felt the "flea" was worth the time.

After the market we drove to La Lavandou.  The day was absolutely gorgeous with temperatures in the mid 60s and plenty of sunshine.  Everyone in the area was eager to enjoy the weather so all of the cafes were filled.  We wandered the town for a bit, then settled in at one of the seaside cafes for a beverage and some people watching.  All in all we found it very satisfying to relax in the sun and take in the view.

When we got hungry we opted to go to a small restaurant we had seen earlier that was right around the corner from the cafe.  They served "la bourride", one of my favorite provencale dishes.  We were NOT disappointed.  The bourride was wonderful and our waiter, Jerry, was extra friendly (which always enhances the experience).  It turns out that Jerry knows Thomas, a local chef who is actually from North Carolina.  I met Thomas YEARS ago (maybe on my first trip to Bormes) when I took a cooking class.

After the delightful bourride we strolled back to our car through the main area of Le Lavandou.  Even more people were out and there were many children riding the carnival like ride that had opened next to the marina.

Now we are back home in time to enjoy the beautiful sunset from l'Orangerie... our home away from home.  Life is very good!
