Le Grand "Aioli" Provencale

Ohhhhh, le Grand Aioli.......

Oh, we had so much to look forward to on this day.  Our good friends, Vivette and Rene, called to tell us that our new friends, Elli and Harry, had invited us all to come to their house to prepare a Grand Aioli.  Skip and I made deviled eggs and a pecan pie to take.  Vivette brought the ingredients to prepare a "Gateau des Fauielles", a dessert that resembles tiramisu... and yes she gave me the recipe!  Vivette also brought the ingredients to prepare an appetizer made of sardines wrapped in dough and brushed with egg yokes.  Elli and Harry provided all of the things needed for the aioli... an unbelievable assortments of delicious vegetables and fish.

We started with the sardine appetizer and with the deviled eggs that we brought.  Harry remarked that they have eggs prepared like our deviled eggs in his native Holland, only their eggs are more spicy.

After the appetizers and before the aioli we had a wonderful starter that was prepared with mushroom in an amazing tomato sauce, with lots of parsley and other herbs from the area!

The Grand Aioli was marvelous.  Harry prepared the aioli (mayonaisse) and refrigerated it while Vivitte, Elli, and I prepared the other things needed for the meal.  To complete the aioli, we steamed fish, potatoes, carrots, small turnips, peppers (red, yellow, orange, and green), escargot, boiled eggs, and onions.  They also included mussels that were absolutely amazing!

Dessert followed the aioli, after which we had coffee and a few Belgium chocolates out by the pool in the beautiful sunshine!  All we could say was a big WOW!!!  How special it is to meet such lovely people and to have such a fantastic afternoon sharing an AMAZING meal.  Life is indeed wonderful!

Merci beaucoup to our lovely friends Vivette, Rene, Elli, and Harry!!

Here are other pictures we took from this delightful afternoon.
