Rain, rain, rain... but it really didn't slow us down too much. (The rain was like being in a nor'easter for two and a half days.) The rain canceled the market in Bormes on Wednesday and we were rather disappointed with that, but we had been able to go to the market the week before. The rain gave us an excuse to return to the casino. Again we didn't "leave" any money there and had another good meal. I had a delicious cod with l'creme aioli, and Skip had a great looking sole.
The wind (and most of the rain) finally subsided Wednesday evening. We were up relatively early on Thursday to go to the market in Le Lavandou. (The last several days we have arisen before the town bells ring - about 8:06 am.) The market was noticeably smaller as I'm sure some vendors were not convinced that the poor weather was really over. Skip and I bought a few items - a wonderful gadget that "slices and dices" every vegetable you can think of, and a neat pair of scissors that will chop all of your herbs. I also found a pair of yellow amber earrings that I liked very much.
After lunch in Le Lavandou (pizza) we returned to Bormes hoping to get a delicious crepe for dessert. Alas, they were closed, so we had to miss that. We wandered around the village a bit before heading up to L'Orangerie to pack.
After we had pretty much everything in order to depart in the morning we turned our attention to dinner. We thought we would go to a restaurant in the village and have an early dinner. We couldn't however because none of the restaurants were serving dinner yet... it was 6:00pm! So we drove back to Le Lavandou certain that we could find a place to have a simple dinner of steak and frites. @#$*^, we walked and walked before we found a place. AND it turned out to be awful. Never, ever, have we had a bad meal here until now. The steak was as tough as shoe leather and the frites were dry as a bone. We decided not to complain too much because we will be having a WONDERFUL dinner Friday at La Palme d'Or in Cannes.
We returned to l'Orangerie, had a bit of ice cream and watched a movie. Tomorrow morning we are off to Cannes. Perhaps we will stop for lunch at a little place in Le Mole that we like. Oh, and the rains returned, but thankfully not the howling wind!
