We left Bormes a day early in order to dine at our favorite restaurant in all of France, La Palme d'Or in Cannes. Usually we make a reservation there on our first night in France, driving the short distance from Nice to Cannes in about 30 minutes. However, this year when we were making our reservations we learned that the restaurant would be closed the entire month of February. So we decided to go there as we concluded our vacation.
We left Bormes in the late morning after a leisurely breakfast. Cannes is a little less than two hours away, but we were going to try and have an early/simple lunch so our appetites would be good for the feast we would inevitably have at Le Palme d'Or.
The rain was still coming down as we left the "back" of the village. After driving a short distance we were able to witness the full effect of the three days of rain and wind. We saw many waterfalls and much flooding as we traveled the countryside.
These next two pictures are of the private airport that takes care of the "rich and famous" arriving at St. Tropez via private aircraft... However, we wonder when the airstrip will be open for landings.
These next three pictures are of what is normally a very tiny picturesque stream.
Ste. Maxime... not a good day for a walk!
As lunch approached it was pouring rain. We wanted to get a quick bite to eat, and not too much at that. It was then that we saw the familiar McDonald's arches. So without much thought we pulled straight in deciding that McDonald's would fill the bill... fast and not too much, plus we hadn't eaten at a McDonald's in France in MANY years. So Chez McDonald's it was for lunch.
A flooded vineyard.
Normally the Bay of St. Tropez is tres calme and azure blue... but not on this day.
Ahhhh, the Hotel Martinez.
