We have stayed and eaten at the Auberge de la Madone many times. The Auberge is located in the town of Peillon, a perched village above Nice. It is a small place, but unique in every respect. This visit proved to be another wonderful experience. Normally during this time of year there would be very few guests. However, during this visit a group of athletes were staying in the Auberge. A group of mountain bikers from different countries were meeting with a sponsor. They were discussing the design of a new mountain bike. There were about 24 bikers, with a single woman biker. She, however, was a 12 time world champion and an Olympian. There were other important mountain bikers, including one man who was a junior world champion and a two-time world champion. Believe me, not one of them needed to worry about what they ate with all the calories they would burn biking that mountain... the road was STRAIGHT up and they were on trails that would be MUCH more difficult to ride than the paved road!
